June Tabor sings Lili Marlene

June Tabor does a charming rendition of an old song titled "Lili Marlene". After an introduction to the song, she performs in both German and English. From the Daughters of Albion on BBC Four.
Mary Clare Malloy - Dolores Keane

"Mary Clare Malloy" sung by Dolores Keane from Tom Russell's album "The Man From God Knows Where". Lyrics: A stor mo chroi when you're far away from the home you will soon be leaving... My name is Mary Clare Malloy, I was born in County Cork At 18 years of age I sailed for the shores of old New York With 700 picture brides torn tween hope and fear At last we spied Manhattan and the famous Isle ...
Love this song, from Venezuela ♥️✨

This song will reveal if you have an Irish soul or not. If you do it will bring you to your knees.
the best version ever!
June Tabor is one of the most gifted singers ever known and not acknowledged enough. Her interpretive range is remarkable.
Dolores has the most beautiful irish singing voice ive ever heard. She has a way with words no one else has . Beautiful
Just as my Grandmother used to sing to me..just beautiful Delores
Would bring tears to a stone
I think this is the best version I've ever heard of the beautiful Yeats poem put into song form. Her voice is amazing This poem is one of my favourites by Yeats, I discovered it through a beautiful soul who came into my life one time long ago ❤
Sometimes bands should just leave a great song alone and not cover it. This is one of those times.
Sometimes, commenters should just stay quiet and move on. This is one of those times.
@@manveru_eilhart You put it out there. Not every comment is going to be kissing you butt.
@@martingillette7613 I didn't record the song. It's not my butt to be kissed. But similarly, you put your comment out there. I'm just letting you know it's worthless. Maybe come up with something of value to say before you hit enter.
Michael Jaramillo is actually correct. I should have wrote something of substance. Lord knows I've said that to others. This is the music I grew up with and it is heard to hear versions that are not powerful and don't give the feel of the original. I simply listened to the "Woodstock" version one day and now all kinds of versions are showing up. You know how that happens. I don't mind bands trying this song out and I've given positive reviews to a few of them. They have just enough of the original and just enough personal touch. White Rabbit should sound psychedelic and doesn't work as something else. For example I've heard acoustic versions that are really bad. It should end very powerful. The vocals are nice and I'm sure this band could do a good job with this song.
@@martingillette7613 It was a live performance at a festival of a pub band with a guest singer. They were just having fun. I think reviews in comment sections are generally unnecessary, not just yours. I could've sworn I turned comments off but UA-cam will UA-cam. The fact of the matter is, the song is available to hear if you like it. There's plenty more songs out there if you don't. If you loved this cover and gave it a rave review, the comment would have been just as useless, honestly. Though, normally I don't bother to respond. Yours was just to snarky to not get a jolly out of responding to.

She sings Yeats poem with such depth Brings tears to my eyes, beautiful
Fare the well Norma - now that you have shuffled off this mortal coil. You sang with awareness of every word and appreciation of the fragility and toughness of human beings.
Eine unglaublich schöne Entdeckung. Danke MdR Kultur!
R.I.P. Norma - passed away yesterday at the age of 82.
RIP, Norma. My condolences to Martin, Eliza, and family. A remarkable life. A great loss.
Best version, outside of Ms Slick’s?
Being an OLD Grace Slick J/A fan and having chased the rabbit... gotta say without taking anything away from Grace... this is a tripped out version not made for pop radio... belike to give me some flashbacks... I know of June Tabor from the world of Celtic music, and was very pleasantly surprised to hear this coming from her mouth!
Sublime!! June breathes life and heart and soul into everything she sings. Really enjoy her taking on non folk type songs.
She has the voice of an angel x o o x treasure! First time I’ve heard Dolores x o x o x ooooooooooo xx .. Hugh
It is a brilliant rendition, but don’t buy the cd on the strength of this this performance. The cd version is not live, and not a patch on this version.
I have "AQABA" and "Anthology". Just ordered Angel Tiger on a whim. Have read Quercus (band name) and the albums "Rennaisance", "Ashore" and "Fairport" are very good. Am considering getting Freedom and Rain (with Oyster Band) aswell (it's on a local craigslist sorta thing).
Wow.
Nice cover but doesn't come close to Grace's version.
Would it be possible to have the lyrics of this wonder-wonder-wonder-full-full a lot song ?
You are only pretty if you disappear And you must be beautiful for them my dear Whatever before you wanted to achieve Is lost to this love to turn to fallen leaves The fallen leaves that cover everything Must lie together all in your eyes Then you can live among the privileged Oh but don't appear to be more than mine I am only pretty if I disappear I see myself and wish me gone When others strive to keep themselves alive I rise and fall in this crowd alone My love for you is like the morning That at the window wants to come in But still the curtains twitch and shudder The house where I'm supposed to live closes again With every step this light gets stronger And more of my face and skin is seen I see the light fall on my children And I fight for them and myself again And here I am my island, my home And pretty flowers all rot and fade The scent of death does naught to cover me Nor does the water all around my bed Oh when will I embrace my darling Your head and hair in the lonesome night No matter what I do or say my love Or where I walk on these blistering feet You are only pretty if you disappear And you must be beautiful for them my dear Whatever before you wanted to achieve Is lost to this to turn to fallen leaves
@@IslandForestPlains Heartly thanks for sending the lyrics of "Fallen leaves" Angels and devils are singing together somewhere in a forgotten world.
June sounding magical. love it.
a little miracle of voice and orchestration

Great cover of this acid-rock classic! It's kickass, love it!
Thanks and posting.........
Glad I listened and subscribed! Good work.
And liked also!
Stop telling lies you shits
Everything about this is PERFECT!
A chilling story of 'those from the other side'. Dolores Keane's heartbreaking interpretation of a Tom Russel song.
I like Norma, but this is a dirge
Unique phrasing. She opens up the poem to the imagery. It's brilliant. I wonder if Ms. Keane listens to Jimmy Scott.
Holy Heck! I didn't know June could rock and boy can she. Where has she been all my life?
jessie lee peterson show brought me here
Listen to the whole album. It's a remarkable depiction of our history.
June Tabor and Oysterband -- hard to beat musically. Yes, we know Grace Slick's will always be the definitive version but this is decades later and it shows how potent that song still is in the hands of true professionals. It takes on a whole new ambiance and maintains the creepiness of the fairytale. But then, Tabor has always been a master of song styles and covers.
I do like this version much better
strong clear voice.
its adds nothing to the song a bit pointless
Thankyou
I remember Grace and JA doing this when I was kid back in the 60's. It's still, in my mind, one of the most memorable and poignant songs ever written. I know the song belongs to, and made Grace famous, but nothing is immutable. Please forgive my sacrilege, but I do believe that Junes version here is actually better than the original. I shall now hang my head in shame, and go to sit sit on the naughty step for ... ever probably.
Remember what the dormouse said! THAT is what matters>
Grace Slick and Airplane is not the original. You need to hear the Grace Slick & the Great Society version that precedes the Airplane. It's here on YT - all 6 minutes of it!
Brilliant version...love it...keeping it primal!!! *<3 <3 <3*
love that "folky" version
you are only pretty when you disappear..perfect hag song..rich powerful and magnificent..beautiful singing Norma....xxxxxxxxxxxxx
it takes someone with real talent to handle this and june tabor does
